Free Story: play with a live narrator in your browser
Free Story is the way to play Ejderha where one person at the table is the narrator. You set the scene, voice the characters and decide what needs a roll. The game rolls the dice with the SRD 5.2 rules, tracks hit points and experience and runs the battles. That leaves you free for the best part of tabletop role-playing: the story.
What the narrator has at hand
You narrate, the game does the math
Checks, battles, hit points and experience follow the SRD 5.2 rules inside the game. You keep the story going without flipping through a rulebook.
Ready adventures and templates
Start within minutes with ready adventures like The Lost Caravan or The Cursed Temple. Write your own template and share it with the community if you like.
Real handouts
Send a letter, a map, a sealed order or a stone inscription. Players read them as paper inside the story and can open them again later.
Battle in one click
Pick the monsters and the battle board opens in 3D or 2D. Turn order, attacks and spells follow the rules while you keep narrating.
Parties of up to six
Friends join with a code and bots take the empty seats. With planned tables you can announce a session for a later time.
A safe table
Players can anonymously mark topics they want to avoid. The X card is always at hand and chat can be muted.
Your first session in three steps
Set up the table
Choose Free Story on the Play with friends screen and give your table a name.
Share the code
Send the six letter code or the link to your friends. If you do not want to wait, try it with bots.
Open the screen
Pick a ready adventure and narrate the first scene. The table writes the rest together.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to know the rules to be the narrator?
No. Dice, difficulties and battle rules are built into the game. You decide what needs a roll and the game works out the rest.
Does Free Story cost anything?
No, Ejderha is free. During the closed beta, sign up is by invite code.
How many people can play?
One narrator and up to six heroes. Bots fill the empty seats and you can also set up a practice table on your own.
Can I narrate on my phone?
Yes. On a phone the narrator screen splits into tabs. For long sessions a computer or tablet is more comfortable.
Can I write my own adventure?
Yes. In the Templates tool you write the scenes, characters, quests and handouts yourself and can share them with the community.
